Our kayak lessons, canoe lessons or stand up paddle board (SUP) lessons are held at Brant Park, about 1 hour from Toronto, Waterloo and London, Ontario.
These one hour instructional lessons are designed for beginners or people wishing a refresher on how to paddle a canoe, kayak or stand up paddle board.
The idea is, that you can take a lesson before doing your trip.
Please note that all canoe, kayak and stand up paddle board lessons are only offered on the Paris to Brant Park route. We presently do not offer lessons on the Cambridge or Glen Morris routes.
The lesson is broken into two parts… land-based instruction, followed by practice time on the water. The idea is to gain confidence and competence.
The land-base instruction covers equipment, how to paddle, types of strokes, getting in & out of the boat and safety awareness.
Practice time on the water covers entry technique, ease of balance, steering and how to do the different paddle strokes.
Once everyone is comfortable, the instructor will get a map and go over the route. Then you are shuttled upstream to take as long as you want paddling back to your vehicle.
If available, you can hire your own personal guide to do your instructional lesson… then travel with you down the Grand River. The cost is $150 plus HST for the instructional river guide.
The lesson price for canoe, kayak or stand up paddle board are all the same… $25 plus HST for each person
To book your lesson… select “Book Now”… then choose “Paris to Brant Park” … then choose your type of boat… then choose “lesson”.
